01.05.2016
National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD) activists marched through Schwerin to the main station on May Day, Sunday, accompanied by the police.
NPD protesters marched through Schwerin, and rallied at Marienplatz, its main square, for some speeches. The protesters started marching again towards the main station. Upon their arrival at the station of the capital of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the police barricaded the area and blocked counter-protesters from entering the facility.
Counter-demontrators were not able to come close to the NPD protesters, as the police surrounded them from all sides. The police broke up the march at around 4 pm local time, saying that about 100 counter-protesters were masked and had opposed arrest.
Unconfirmed reports say a counter-protester was allegedly beaten by the police, and then taken to a hospital nearby. The police denied the claims on Twitter, saying the counter-protester was brought to the hospital following circulatory problems.
