Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying criticised Hong Kong protesters who rallied outside the British consulate by calling it a "shameful" action during a presser in Beijing on Monday.
"I think it is very shameful for a Chinese to beg for foreign intervention like this. It's definitely not something to be proud of," said the spokesperson.
She also warned that those interfering in China's and Hong Kong's affairs "are doomed to failure and self-defeat."
On Sunday, demonstrators in Hong Kong delivered a petition to UK Consul General Andrew Heyn, asking for support from the UK government.
Hua Chunying also touched on the network security concerns around Huawei and said that the American companies Cisco and Apple are the ones "we should guard against."
