Argentina: Presidential frontrunner Daniel Scioli casts vote in Tigre
5
25.10.2015
Daniel Scioli, the Front for Victory (FPV) presidential candidate, voted in Tigre on Sunday. Former Vice-President Scioli is currently leading the polls. Scioli is facing strong competition from the centre-right Mayor of Buenos Aires Mauricio Macri. Whatever the result of Sunday's election it will mark the end of 12-years of rule by the Kirchner couple, after the late Nestor Kirchner was elected in 2003; in 2007 his wife and incumbent President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner took power. President Kirchner has served two consecutive terms and, under Argentina's constitution, is barred from running again. To win outright a candidate requires 45% of the vote or a 10-point lead over their nearest rival. If no candidate achieves the required proportion of the vote there will be a second round of voting on November 22.
