13.10.2016
Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announced at the Scottish National Party conference in Glasgow on Wednesday that a draft bill for a second Scottish referendum on independence would “be ready next week."
Sturgeon said that if the Conservative government under Prime Minister Theresa May pursued a “hard Brexit," a situation she described as “a UK out of the single market, isolated, inward looking, hemorrhaging jobs, investment and opportunities,” then she was “determined” Scotland would have “the ability to reconsider the question of independence.”
Sturgeon’s remarks drew a standing ovation from the crowd. The announcement has been criticised by Scottish opposition leaders for fanning divisions within the UK.
