Germany: Suspected arson attack hits Thuringia refugee shelter

03.10.2015
A still vacant refugee shelter burnt down in Bischhagen in Thuringia on Saturday, just two days before refugees were scheduled to move in. Local police have not excluded arson as a possible reason for the fire. The damage to the former farm in Bischhagen is estimated at around €100,000 ($112,000). No injuries have been reported. Firefighters have yet to enter the building due to its foundations being potentially hazardous. The first batch of refugees were scheduled to arrive on Monday to move into the building. According to the mayor of the village, there have been no public objections to the hosting of refugees in the centre. A series of arson attacks on refugee shelters have hit Germany over the past six months.
