Campaigners for the peace deal between the Colombian government and the "Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia" (FARC) commiserated at the Hotel Tequendama, in Bogota, on Sunday, after Colombian voters rejected the deal in a referendum.
The close result saw 50.24% of voters reject the terms of the peace deal. The referendum had a low turnout, at less than 40%.
Reaching a deal with FARC was a pledge Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos committed to before his 2010 election victory. On September 27, after 52-years of bloody conflict, a 297-page agreement was signed by Santos and FARC leader Timoleon Jimenez (also known as Timochenko) following almost four years of negotiations.
