Hundreds of opponents of the Polish LGBT community attempted to disrupt the first ever LGBT pride parade held in the eastern Polish city of Bialystok on Saturday. According to police officials cited by local media, a number of people were detained as they tried to block the march and for allegedly using firecrackers and throwing bottles.
Footage shows protesters chanting anti-LGBT slogans and burning the rainbow flag amid a heavy police presence. Police in riot gear were seen escorting the around 500-800 reported participants of the pride parade along the route as they carried rainbow flags and marched peacefully.
Footage also shows police restraining counter-protesters as they attempted to keep the two groups apart.
