Malaysia: Former deputy PM Hamidi faces trial for 45 corruption charges

Former Malaysian deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi arrived at Kuala Lumpur court on Friday, where he is to face trial for 45 charges linked to corruption, breach of trust and money-laundering.
Hamidi arrived to court under heavy police escort where he was greeted by dozens of his supporters.
The former deputy PM was arrested on Thursday in Putrajaya by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The 65-year-old opposition (United Malays National Organisation) president has been questioned five times by the anti-corruption commission since the May 9 general election.
Hamidi is the first Umno president to be charged in court. Bail has been set at RM 2 million (appr. EUR 420,000).
