France: Police stage anti-terror drill at Euro 2016 stadium in Toulouse

15.04.2016
French police staged an anti-terror drill at the Stadium de Toulouse, Thursday. The arena will host four matches during the Euro 2016 football tournament.
A police raid team had to respond to a simulated hostage situation in which militants had captured at least one person. The sound of shots could be heard as the raid team stormed the venue after their armoured police vehicle had approached a stadium entrance. The raid team then entered as the vehicle manoeuvred so the rescued 'hostage' and police could gain easy access to the vehicle before it sped off.
Speaking to the press following the conclusion of the drill, an officer from RAID Bordeaux explained that the exercises take place on a weekly basis at locations such as the Afghan and Lebanese embassies.
French authorities are ramping up security and preparing personnel for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2016 tournament that kicks off on June 10 and runs until July 10. The anti-terror drills come in light of the November 13 Paris terror attacks during which so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants targeted the Stade de France and five other locations across the French capital, killing a total of 130 people.
