Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Hebrew): "Thank you for everything. Thank you from my heart, and of course to Einat too. How do you feel, did it happen here?"
'Ziv', Israeli security guard (Hebrew): "Here and in the back"
*UPSOUND*
'Ziv', Israeli security guard (Hebrew): "Thank you."
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister (Hebrew): "And I am happy that things ended the way they did. You acted well, calmly, and we also had an obligation to get you out. This was not even a question. And I am pleased that it was short. How do you feel, back in Israel?"
'Ziv', Israeli security guard (Hebrew): "A weight has been lifted from my heart. I am happy to be here. Thank you from my heart. Einat and I felt that people were standing behind us and were making every effort. We felt this and I am glad that we are here."
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister (Hebrew): "You represent the State of Israel and the State of Israel does not forget that even for a moment."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu greeted the country's Ambassador to Jordan, Einat Shlain, and security guard 'Ziv' in Jerusalem, on Tuesday. The latter was in the centre of a diplomatic crisis after he shot and killed two Jordanians following a stabbing at an Israeli Embassy residence in Amman, Sunday.
Netanyahu said that the two represented Israel, and that "I am happy that things ended the way they did. You acted well, calmly, and we also had an obligation to get you out. This was not even a question."
On Sunday, two Jordanians, Muhammad Zakariya al-Jawawdeh, 17, and Bashar Hamarneh, a doctor who lived nearby, were shot dead at Israeli embassy compound in Amman in what, according to a Jordanian investigation, developed from a professional dispute. The dispute developed when al-Jawawdeh reportedly attack 'Ziv' with a screwdriver, the security guard then shot dead al-Jawawdeh and Hamarneh, who was reportedly caught in the cross fire.
The Jordanians wanted to question the guard, and initially refused to let him be transferred back to Israel. Following a phone discussion between Netanyahu and Jordanian King Abdullah, the officer and other embassy staff were evacuated to Jerusalem, late Monday evening.
