11.08.2015
"I am not accepting any corporate donations of any sort," 2015 Labour leadership candidate Jeremy Corbyn told an audience of supporters in Cardiff on Tuesday," before joking that he hasn't been "offered any either." Raising a giggle from the crowd, the socialist and former Stop the War campaign leader made the comments as he thanked various trade unions, non-governmental organisations and the general public for their political and financial support for his campaign. Corbyn also slammed the British government’s rhetoric in relation to the Calais crisis. Connecting the crisis in the French port town to the "chaos" and "horror" in North Africa and the Middle East, he branded London's response "appalling" before reminding the British government and press that those attempting to cross the Mediterranean are "fellow human beings." The latest YouGov poll on the Labour leadership race indicates that Corbyn is favoured with 53% of the vote compared to Andy Burnham's 21%. The winner will be confirmed on September 12, 2015, after voting closes on September 10.
