SOT, Alex Dickenson, Extinction Rebellion Activist: "We're thanking Boris for giving us this idea today. It was his idea to lie in front of [the] bulldozers to stop [the] Heathrow expansion. He's obviously a bit too busy to join is today, because of this election, which is helpfully drawing people's attention to the things that actually matter, which is the environment rather than Brexit."

SOT, Alex Dickenson, Extinction Rebellion Activist: "The Heathrow extension is not compatible with continued existence on this planet. We've got to turn things around and change how we're doing things. So it's madness. Our politicians are waking up to the inevitablity of changing our use of flying. It's a significant contributer to our overall environmental footprint on the planet. We have to start reducing it. It's not a choice, it's essential."

SOT, Pat, Extinction Rebellion Activist: "I think that the third runway is an absolute disaster. I've just cycled along the A4 with all these good cyclists from Extinction Rebellion. And the fumes as we were cycling along there, from the fuel and the traffic, were really, really unpleasant - really horrible. And it's only going to get worse if we have the third runway as well, which is going to absolute increase the amount of traffic along here, and the amount of flights."

SOT, Sheila Taylor, Extinction Rebellion Activist: "No I'm more for the local [Labour] MP, John McDonnell. He's helped us more than... Because he's been here years, whereas Boris is... [Inaudible] supposed to be here today, isn't he? We that's what my daughter says, but there's no sign of him, is there?"

Extinction Rebellion (XR) protesters held a roadside lie-in near Heathrow Airport in London, Sunday, to demonstrate against a third runway planned at the transport hub.
The activists lay down on the road in front of a pink tractor-turned-bulldozer as the police stood guard. The protest was in response to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's promise to "lie down in front of those bulldozers and stop the construction of that third runway," a statement he made as he was elected to parliament in Uxbridge in 2015.
"There's no sign of him, is there," said one activist, Sheila Taylor, as others criticised him for what they see as yet another broken promise.
Alex Dickenson, another Extinction Rebellion activist, thanked Boris Johnson for "helpfully drawing people's attention to the things that actually matter, which is the environment rather than Brexit."
Part of the road was closed off as the protest took place.
