Hundreds of protesters gathered in Quito on Friday, to show their support for President Rafael Correa and show solidarity with his government's policies.
Demonstrators marched through the Ecuadorian capital before gathering at the Carondelet Palace for a rally. Under the slogan "Festival of Joy", a number of political leaders and activists gave speeches while musical and dance groups staged performances
"We have to defend this hard-earned decade, we will not allow those who want to go back and have a country like we had before", said Economy Minister Lidice Larrea, referring to the success of Correa's party, PAIS Alliance, which was founded ten years ago.
On August 15, 1.2 million supporters of Correa signed a petition calling for a constitutional referendum that would allow him to compete for a fourth term. Correa, who has been president since 2007 has however annnounced that he will not run for re-election in the 2017 vote.
