North Carolina Legislature Passes Abortion Waiting Period Bill
16
04.06.2015
North Carolina lawmakers passed a bill that would make the state one of several with 72-hour waiting periods for an abortion.
The passage will test Republican Governor Pat McCrory's 2012 campaign statement that he would abstain from signing any restrictive abortion bills.
The House and Senate chambers in the state legislature approved the measure by margins above the threshold for overcoming a veto, should the governor choose to do so.
The bill requires women to talk with a doctor or other qualified professional 72 hours before having an abortion, excluding medical emergencies.
