Bosnia and Herzegovina: Serb PM joins vigil for 75th anniv. of Jasenovac death camp

A commemoration marking 75 years since the opening of the Jasenovac concentration camp was held in Donja Gradina on Friday.
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik were among the attendees. Members of the Roma, Jewish and Serbian orthodox community were also present.
Jasenovac, which had many of its sites based is modern day Croatia and areas of Republika Srpska in Bosnia, consisted of a system of several concentrations camps. It is estimated that over 700,000 people, mostly Serbs, Jews and Roma people, were killed.
The camp was opened on August 21, 1941, and was liberated by Marshall Tito's Yugoslav Partisans on May 2, 1945. It was guarded by Nazi German and Ustase Croatian forces. Days before the partisans entered the camp, guards killed many of the inmates and burned the evidence of their crimes. Scores of inmates successfully fled the camp.
