02.09.2016
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that significant progress was made between Russian and Japan in Vladivostok, Friday, after Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met for talks at the Eastern Economic Forum.
Lavrov stated that "large-scale projects" were being developed and more details would be announced in the course of Putin’s forthcoming visit to Japan. The Russian Foreign Minister added that in spite of a "difficult period" between Russia and Japan, the two countries have deepened their relations.
Japan became a member of the International Syrian Support Group (ISSG) with Russian support, according to Lavrov, and during the meeting Putin and Abe discussed cooperation on "issues that are on the agenda of the UN."
The Easter Economic Forum kicked off earlier on Friday, and will run until Saturday. It is aimed at attracting foreign investment into Russia's eastern regions.
