22.09.2015
At least 1000 LEGIDA (Leipzig Against the Islamisation of the West) supporters took to the streets of Leipzig, Monday The demonstrators gathered at Willy Brandt Platz outside the city's central train station, where they were confronted by around 2000 anti-fascist counter-protesters. A large police presence successfully kept the two sides separated and there were no reports of clashes or arrests. Supporters of LEGIDA, a group inspired by PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of the West), have taken to the streets of the East German city repeatedly this year as anti-migrant and anti-Islam fervour runs high.
