Several residents of the Turkish-Syrian border city of Ras al-Ain fled their homes and took shelter in a high school in the city of Tell Beydar, al-Hasaka governorate, as shown on footage from Wednesday.
Carrying their belongings inside plastic bags and using trucks for transportation, families try to adapt to the new location. Footage shows women washing clothes in a washbasin on the streets and clothes hanging to dry on the school's wall.
"All of us were deported from our houses [with] the kids. There is no place to stay in, no water nor anything. We are all staying in a school,” said Miskeen.
"This is our seventh day as refugees, we came here today, there are no rations nor [relief] organizations, our kids are astray on streets,” said another displaced resident.
On October 9, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of a military operation in north-eastern Syria dubbed 'Operation Peace Spring’. Ankara says the aim of the Turkish offensive is to create a 'safe zone' cleared of Kurdish groups.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates over 160,000 people have been displaced from the Syrian-Turkish border area since the start of the Turkish offensive.
