Uruguay: Ex-Gitmo prisoners sets up camp at US embassy

01.05.2015
Four former Guantanamo Bay prisoners camped outside the U.S Embassy in Montevideo, Thursday, protesting the conditions upon which they were granted asylum in Uruguay in December. The ex-prisoners arrived with two more of their former Guantanamo inmates, after more than a decade in detention. The six were initially receiving $600 USD (535 euros) per month, and were granted a house by the worker's union. However last Friday, the refugees were told that they would no longer receive the economic support from the government, unless they sign a document, which five of them refused to do. It has not been revealed what was in the document. The former inmates are now demanding that they receive financial reparations from the U.S government. The refugees currently protesting are Abd al-Hadi Omar Mahmoud Faraj, Ali al-Shaaban, Abdul Bin Mohammed Ourgy and Mohammed Tahamatan.
