29.10.2015
Supporters of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova celebrated in Chisinau, Thursday, after their leader Igor Dodon announced that the country's parliament had dismissed the government in a vote of no confidence. "Well, dear comrades, the history is made: at last the government has resigned, was forced to resign. They are no more," Dodon stated. His announcement came moments after the Moldovan parliament dismissed the government of Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, following a vote of no confidence. Sixty-five out of the 101 seat parliament voted against Strelet's administration, which was only appointed on June 30. Moldova has witnessed a summer of protests after allegations of major banking fraud rocked the government last year. In November 2014 the Moldovan state was forced to bail out three banks after they lost $1.5 billion (€1.35 billion) in total. Protesters are calling for criminal charges to be brought against those responsible.
