German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that she believes she made the right decision in letting thousands of refugees enter the country, during a Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party conference in Berlin on Saturday. During the #CDUdigital event, she said stood by her decision, despite the fact that some members of the CDU have voiced their concerns about dropping the Dublin Regulation. Merkel also noted that the refugee crisis is "not only Germany's responsibility, this is a responsibility of all the member states of the European Union." On September 7, Merkel decided to suspend the Dublin Regulation, which states that asylum seekers can only claim asylum in the first European Union country they enter. Germany is now permitting officers to process asylum applications from people who first arrived at any country within the EU.
