Sydney, It's not Me, It's You: The Fight Against the 'nanny State'

First, Monocle's Tyler Brûlé labelled the entirety of Australia a "nanny state" and "dumb" after the fun police stopped him enjoy a wine on the footpath. In recent days, urban planner Matt Gollan wrote a piece titled: "SYDNEY… COULD YOU PLEASE CHILL THE "F" OUT WITH THE NANNY STATE VIBES?" The article has been shared over and over through the social media accounts of those sick of what they believe is over-regulation and the stifling of creativity in the city of Sydney. The gist of the thought-provoking piece is that people are not free to drink on the streets, sit outside at restaurants, host parties, have guests in their house after 10 p.m. or implement cultural initiatives. The majority of these regulations filter down from the New South Wales state government.
