Greece: See anarchists fling FIREWORKS at police as clashes erupt in Athens

Clashes erupted between anarchists and riot police in the district of Exarcheia in Athens, Thursday evening, following a demonstration by around 4,000 workers from a Canadian-run gold mine in northern Greece over fears of job losses, after the Greek government revoked the company's license to develop the mine. The Greek government reportedly revoked the license from the Vancouver-based Eldorado Gold Corp for the project in Skouries over environmental reasons. Local communities and environmental activists argue that the mining project threatens the forest of Halkidiki and the water quality in a natural area. The Greek government has said that no jobs would be lost and accused the Eldorado mining company of encouraging the protests. Eldorado has said that it may reconsider its investment plans for Greece if the decision is not reversed.
