A lookalike of Flamengo's star striker Gabigol was spotted outside Brasilia's National Stadium on Saturday, ahead of their match against Vasco da Gama.
Jeferson Sales, aged 34 and a native of Rio de Janeiro, said that his uncanny resemblance to the Gabigol would often spark off queues for photographs.
"In Flamengo's match against Bahia, I didn't have lunch or water, nor did I go to the toilet because there was a line of people asking me to take pictures [with me]. I couldn't believe that it was happening, and it was so great," recalled Sales.
The Gabigol lookalike said that fans would even ask to take a picture with him during football matches: "In the last Flamengo's match against Gremio, I didn't even watch the match. I had a chance to watch the match only in the middle of the second half. But I am very happy with all this affection coming from fans."
Sales also spoke about what he described as "funny" episodes, when he was confused with the real Gabigol. "A street seller saw me and thought that I was the real Gabigol. He called the traffic police and asked them to hold the traffic so that I could pass because I was late for the match. I found it very funny, and I didn't even have time to say that I wasn't Gabigol," added the lookalike.
