He did not demand for himself a special elite graveyard; he did not want any honours or monuments. His last will was just to lie in the land near fallen Russian soldiers." Prince Nikolai Romanov Jr.'s remains left Paris after a ritual ceremony in Les Invalides in Paris on Monday, as his descendants decided to rebury them in Russia. The Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky and Prince Nikolai Romanov placed flowers at the Russian war monument to the Russian Expeditionary Force before the ashes were sent to Russia. At the ceremony Medinsky spoke of the French-Russian relationship, saying the two countries "are connected by the wonderful history of the allied, brotherly relations, both, in the First and in the Second World War." Prince Nikolay Nikolaevich Romanov Jr. was the grandson of Emperor Nicholas I and Empress Aleksandra Fiodorovna. At the beginning of World War I he served as the Supreme Commander for all ground and naval forces of the Russian Empire.
