Three police vehicles were set alight during a German Unity festival in Dresden, on Saturday night. Local Dresden police stated that the vehicles were so badly damaged that they can no longer used, while the damages are expected to reach tens-of-thousands of euros.
The investigation is ongoing, though police are currently questioning one suspect, who was initially arrested on suspicion of writing offensive graffiti, in relation to the incident.
The event comes on the eve of a large scale German nationalist demonstration in celebration of German Unity, which is to take place in the city on October 3.
Fortress Europe, a branch of PEGIDA, is due to meet at Dresden’s landmark ‘Blue Wonder’ at 15.00, while PEGIDA are expected to gather in Ammonstrasse and march through the old town.
