UK: Jeremy Corbyn talks migrant and banking crises at London speech

03.08.2015
Labour leadership contender Jeremy Corbyn pointed out the migrant crisis and how governments deal with it while speaking at a rally in support of his candidacy at the Camden Centre in London, Monday. "None of this is easy", said Corbyn referring to how to deal with the different humanitarian crisis related to immigration, before questioning whether the UK government's approach to it is right. The Labour MP also blamed the current governments for causing the financial crisis, because of their "inability or refusal to face up" to the flawed financial system. Before Corbyn's speech, other speakers at the rally included social justice campaigners, students, trades unionists and disability activists. Five hundred people supporting the rally remained on the street due to the lack of space, and were addressed by Corbyn outside the venue. Corbyn has been gathering support in his attempt to become leader of the Labour party, after their comprehensive defeat earlier this year in the UK general election. The MP has been garnering the support of various trade unions in his candidacy bid, many of which express sympathy with his anti-austerity message.
