14.10.2015
Several hundred protesters took to the streets of the Estonian capital Tallinn, Wednesday, calling for stricter EU border controls and a national referendum on whether the Baltic state should take in EU-mandated refugee quotas. The rally was called by a number of right-wing Estonian parties, including the Estonian Conservative People's Party (EKRE), alongside grassroots anti-migrant organisations using social media. The EKRE has organised an online petition to pursue its demands, as well as sending out 530,000 letters, according to party sources. Following agreements with the EU, Estonia is expected to take in between 400 to 500 refugees from southern Europe over the next two years with the first families arriving by Christmas.
