Armed police and passengers wearing masks were filmed in Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila on Friday as more deaths from a coronavirus were reported in China's Wuhan province.
More than a hundred tourists from Wuhan are believed to have arrived in the Philippines for Lunar Year celebrations before flights to the region were suspended.
“I don’t know how bad the situation is but I’ve been reading news that there were people from Wuhan, China that were allowed to come into the country so I thought that there’s nothing wrong with being careful. That is why I am wearing a mask today,” said Camille Javellana, a teacher in Japan.
“It seems like there’s a possibility that it could spread. I think the worst that can happen is a lot of people will be contaminated and we do not have the cure for it yet,” she added.
There are 894 confirmed cases of the newly emerging coronavirus, which has killed at least 41 people, with cases spreading over the country. An outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by the newly emerging coronavirus - also known as 2019-nCoV - was reported in Wuhan, in December 2019.
