Clashes erupted in Frankfurt between Turkish nationalists and pro-Kurdish protesters as riot police struggled to keep the groups apart, Thursday. Rival groups reportedly attacked each other with knives, screw-drivers and bottles. The violence resulted in multiple injuries and 50 arrests. Up to 1,000 Turkish nationalists gathered in front of Frankfurt's main station in a display of solidarity with the Turkish state in its ongoing battle against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). PKK sympathisers, alongside German and Turkish anti-fascists activists, reportedly confronted the demonstration when the violence broke out. Police used tear gas and pepper spray to try and separate the two groups, though they couldn't contain the protesters and the violence spilled out onto the streets around the station. The fighting came as violence escalated between the Turks and Kurds in Turkey. Hundreds of Kurdish civilians have reportedly been injured this week in Western Turkey, with reports of over 30 deaths in Cizre. Local media has reported that Kurds are held up in the offices of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Turkey's political party sympathetic to the Kurds throughout the country. The Kurdistan National Congress have stated that 128 HDP offices have been attacked nationwide, with nationalist groups allegedly ripping down HDP signs and replacing them with the Turkish flag. Twitter users in Turkey have reported that access to the social network has been blocked.
