Hundreds of residents rallied in Lesbos island's Mytilene on Thursday, on the second consecutive day of a general strike against government plans to erect new migrant detention centres on the island.
Footage shows people marching across the city and chanting slogans, as well as closed local businesses amid the strike.
A member of the Council of North Aegean Prefecture, Nikos Manavis, mentioned the previous day's protests and said that "last night was a big win for the people of Lesbos" over "government's repression forces on the island of Lesbos".
"The fight is going on, nothing is over," he added.
On Wednesday evening, violent clashes erupted between the riot police and protesters attacking a military camp on Lesbos island.
The refugee crowding in the Greek camps had temporarily eased following a deal between the EU and Turkey but has worsened in recent months. With 74,613 arrivals in 2019, according to the UNHCR, Greek islands continue to be the main entry point for illegal immigration in the EU.
