Russia: Russian navy ship returns to Sevastopol following Syria service

14.04.2016
The Russian Buyan-M class corvette, the 'Zeleny Dol' returned to its home port in Sevastopol on Thursday, after completing a tour of active service off the Syrian coast.
It had been deployed on duty in the eastern Mediterranean since the beginning of February after it was dispatched from Russia' Black Sea Fleet. The returning corvette has been replaced by the ‘Serpukhov,’ a ship of the same class.
The Buyan-M class corvettes are equipped with both long range anti-ship and anti-submarine Calibre-NK cruise missiles, which are similar to the ordnance used last October when Russia’s navy hit targets in Syria using missiles fired from the Caspian Sea.
