Hundreds of people protested in the buffer zone near the village of Horgos on the Serbian-Hungarian border, Tuesday. They chanted name of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and held banners reading "Mama Merkel" and "Help us Merkel." Hundreds of refugees have set up camp in the middle of the highway in protest against Hungary's decision to block migrants and refugees attempting to pass into the European Union (EU) via the south-eastern frontier. According to the Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin, "this is the most important test for EU since its foundation." He went on to put forward his view that "if the EU cannot impose same rules to all its members, then I'm afraid the future of the EU is unstable and it can hardly be called an organised political union." Refugees will be reportedly allowed to enter Hungary 200 metres (656ft) further up from the protest site, but must have their fingerprints taken before entering. Hungarian authorities decided to officially close the country's border with Serbia on Tuesday. The government has since increased the military presence at the frontier, deploying soldiers and installing a razor-wire fence. Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Monday told Hungary's TV2 station that a state of emergency was "likely" to be introduced in the border area.
