Belfast's Ulster Protestant community watched as bonfires were lit on July 12 to commemorate the victory of the Protestant king, William of Orange, over the Catholic king, James II, at the 1690 Battle of the Boyne.
Footage from the Belfast bonfire shows a large gathering of people lighting the bonfire with petrol bombs and celebrating this often times contentious celebration in religiously-divided Northern Ireland.
Some people climbed the giant bonfire made of wood to hang the poster of the controversial former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson who was found guilty for contempt of court last week for interfering with the trial of a sexual grooming gang at Leeds Crown Court in May 2018. The Irish tricolour was also burnt atop the bonfire.
The past years have also seen Irish related items such as flags and republican election posters being burnt to make a political statement.
