15.11.2016
Police dispersed protesters from the National Association of Public Employees (ANEF) with water cannons and teargas in Santiago, Friday, as the rallies against the rejection of a state salary increase resumed.
Demonstrators held banners and flags gathered in front of Plaza Italia, before then marched through Alameda to Los Heroes. Police attempted to disperse the march numerous times arresting several protesters in the process.
Protests were sparked after the government rejected an increase of seven percent to salaries, and proposed a 3.2 percent increase instead. Members of United Workers Central (CUT), Confederation of Municipal Health (CONFUSAM) and others joined the rally.
