Russian President Vladimir Putin told Bloomberg on the eve of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Thursday, that Russia had no preference in the next US presidential elections and that Russia was ready to work with whoever wins.
The Russian leader started by denying that Moscow had interfered in the US presidential race, amid allegations that its security services hacked the Democrats. "We do not interfere and do not intend to interfere in internal political processes," stated Putin, adding that "we will be closely observing what's going on and wait for the election results, and then we will be ready to work with any administration, if they want us to."
Putin also bemoaned how he has repeatedly seen the "anti-Russian card" played in internal political campaigns in the United States. He pointed to claims made by the Trump campaign that "Russia allegedly paid the Clinton family through some funds and that in fact we lead the Clinton family." Putin described such allegations as "complete nonsense" and claimed it was a "very short-sighted approach."
The annual Eastern Economic Forum kicked off on Friday with a mission to attract international investment to Russia’s Far East and is due to conclude on Saturday.
