Former President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was greeted by thousands of supporters as she returned to Buenos Aires on Saturday evening, just a few days after Argentine police raided and searched her family properties in the province of Santa Cruz.
The raids on Kirchner’s offices and apartments in the towns of Rio Gallegos, El Calafate and El Chalten were conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into Kirchner over allegations of fraud.
In a separate series of cases, accusations against Kirchner include money laundering, embezzlement and mishandling of public money in tandem with the Central Bank during the final months of her time as Argentinian president. Kirchner’s supporters have hit out against current conservative President Mauricio Macri’s government for allegedly using the investigations as a way to politically persecute the former president.
In April, Kirchner arrived in Buenos Aires for the first time in four months, to testify in front of Judge Claudio Bonadio.
