Two Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers were tailed by Finnish, Danish and Swedish military jets as they carried out a routine patrol over the Baltic Sea, Russia’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement on Monday.
According to MoD officials, the Russian jets undertook a routine seven-hour flight over neutral waters close to the Russian border.
"The flight duration was more than seven hours. Danish F-16, Finnish F-18 and Swedish JAS-39 Gripen fighter jets followed the Russian planes at certain sections of their route," the ministry said.
After completing their patrol the Tu-160s successfully landed at an undisclosed airfield in Russia.
As the Russian Ministry of Defence stated, all flights of the Russian Aerospace Forces are performed in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
