24.01.2017
Two brothers were arrested on suspicion of having links to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly known as ISIS/ISIL) and al-Nusra Front, in Bad Muenstereifel near Bonn on Tuesday.
According to federal prosecution services, the 24- and 25-year-old German-Moroccans, Khalid B and Rachid B, are accused of having joined both organisations. Rachid reportedly travelled to Syria in February 2013, followed by his brother in July. Initially the 25-year-old joined al-Nusra Front but moved to IS in May. Both of the brothers are said to have received military training with IS during their stay and were given assault rifles. They were taught in combat and carried out guard duties.
German police searched the suspects’ flats prior to the arrests. Khalid and Rachid B. will appear in front of the investigating magistrate on Tuesday.
