Czech Republic: PM heckled at Prague Spring commemoration

21.08.2018
The Czech Republic's Prime Minister Andrej Babis was booed and heckled at an event commemorating the 50th anniversary since the end of the Prague Spring, when Czechoslovakia was invaded by Warsaw Pact countries.
Babis was repeatedly interrupted by protesters on Tuesday outside Czechoslovak Radio's Vinohrady building, where he had been unveiling a plaque.
The event was planned to pay tribute to those who died in the radio station resisting the occupation of Czechoslovakia.
The 1968 invasion took place on 21 August and mainly consisted of the USSR forces, alongside those of Bulgaria, Hungary, East Germany and Poland. The incursion was successful in empowering the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, which led to the prevention of the government's ongoing liberalisation reforms.
