Hundreds of Iranians and human rights campaigners gathered outside of where the United Nations General Assembly was taking place in New York City, Wednesday, in protest against Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's appearance at the summit.
Speakers included former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton, former New Jersey Senator Robert Torricelli and Representative Eliot Engel, in addition to theatrical performances.
Spokesperson for the Iranian Youth Mahtab said, "In gross defiance of all international standards for the dignity and respect of human life, the Iranian regime, still holding power in Tehran, oversaw and continues to oversee, the executions of minors."
The premise for the protest, under the banner #FreeIran, was the belief that Rouhani should not be invited to New York or the UN because of his alleged breaches of human rights.
