Clashes broke out between police and protesters in Mexico City, Tuesday, during a demonstration marking the eight month anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa. Protesters could be seen setting various items on fire and throwing objects at police officials. The activists gathered at four different points across the city and later converged at Zocalo, the main square in front of the Presidential Palace. Protesters carried placards with slogans such as "Genocides not Ayotzinapa" and banners baring the face of National Action Party (PAN) candidate Luis Mendoza. The organisers are reportedly planning to boycott the local elections in various states, including Guerrero on June 7 in protest to the government's response to the disappearance and alleged murder of the students that occurred on September 26, 2014.
