President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker announced to the press in Brussels, on Wednesday, that the UK would need to implement the four basic freedoms, notably the free movement of workers, if they wished to remain in the EU's common market following their formal withdrawal from the union.
Juncker termed the atmosphere of the meeting he held earlier that day as positive, saying that it was important that both sides agreed on the fundamentals of the day's discussions.
The UK needs to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty in order to commence the official procedures to withdraw from the European Union. However, UK Prime Minister David Cameron says that this will be done by the next UK Prime Minister following his formal resignation from the post in the autumn.
