Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko cast his vote for the Belarus parliamentary elections at the so-called polling station “Number 1”, in Minsk, on Sunday. Lukashenko was accompanied by his son Nikolai.
With more than 50 percent of the voting population casting their vote and no reports of major voting violation, the Central Commission on Elections and Holding Republican Referenda of Belarus declared the parliamentary elections valid.
The last parliamentary elections were held in 2012 where Lukashenko won his fifth term, with 83.5% of the vote. In these elections, a total of 448 candidates, including 200 from the opposition, are contesting the 110 seats in Belarus’ lower-house.
More than 800 foreign observers, including 400 from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), have been invited to work at the current elections.
