Thousands of activists marched through the business district in Johannesburg to condemn recent xenophobic attacks in the country. The latest rally came a day after larger demonstrations in the city.
"We do make a mistake when we go and we attribute all of these problems that we have to one group. And we say that the causes of our social ills are the people who have come to South Africa," said one activist, speaking from stage.
On September 2, riots broke out across Johannesburg targeting stores of foreign owners after a social media campaign blaming migrants for 'stealing jobs' and 'delivering low-quality goods'. In response, Nigeria evacuated hundreds of its citizens residing in South Africa.
