SOT, Steffen Seibert, government spokesperson (German): "The investigators have the right man. And we all have to be glad about this. However, the investigation has not ended at that as the Interior Minister has already said. We need to look closer how this could happen, in which circles and what the motivation was. Regarding the right-wing extremist background which is a warning and call for all of us to fight right-wing extremism and right-wing terrorism with even more dedication. The Chancellor and other members of the government have already commented on that."

SOT, Steffen Seibert, government spokesperson (German): "This phenomenon is well-known to everyone working in the federal government, from volunteers to regional and federal ministers and to the Chancellor. There is a disinhibited language glorifying violence and full of hate, which is being used to comment and to threaten. It is a phenomenon everyone is aware of."

SOT, Christopher Burger, Foreign Ministry spokesperson (German): "Our efforts are directed at a de-escalation of the situation [regarding Iran US standoff] and we are in contact with all of the parties in the region. This is the background against which we are evaluating the statements which we have from different sides [Trump tweets]. Our interest is to also verbal disarmament rather than an arms race."
Journalist (German): "Mr Burger, you have just named the demands toward Iran, which demands do you have toward the US?"
Burger (German): "After the US left [the JCPOA], we have highlighted time and again that sticking to the JCPOA is right. Therefore we regretted the US's exit from the JCPOA. We demand all sides to work towards a de-escalation of the situation including steps that would allow the remaining participants of the JCPOA to keep the JCPOA alive."

The arrest of a suspect in the killing of local CDU politician Walter Lubcke does not mean the investigation is over, said government spokesperson Steffen Seibert, during a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.
"We need to look closer at how this could happen, in which circles and what the motivation was," said Seibert, adding that the right-wing extremist background "is a warning and a call for all of us to fight right-wing extremism and right-wing terrorism with even more dedication."
Regarding the situation of the far-right activists in Germany, Seibert said that the authorities are aware of the "language glorifying violence and full of hate, which is being used to comment and to threaten."
Touching on the tensions between the US and Iran, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christopher Burger, said that Germany's efforts are aimed at reaching all parties in the region.
"This is the background against which we are evaluating the statements which we have from different sides. Our interest is to also verbal disarmament rather than an arms race," said Burger.
