Drone footage captured millions of people gathering in Karbala, Monday, for the annual Shia pilgrimage of Arbaeen, where up to 22 million people are expected for the largest annual religious procession in the world.
Arbaeen, meaning forty in Arabic, marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein in the seventh-century. Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam, was the son of Ali and the grandson of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad.
It is estimated that more than 22 million people will march to the shrine in Karbala, as both Shias and Sunnis, among people of other faiths, take part in the annual ceremony.
