Hundreds of members of the Russian community in Toronto took part in the Immortal Regiment march, Sunday.
Participants carried portraits of those who fought in World War II in commemoration of the 71st anniversary of Soviet victory over the Nazis.
The Bessmertny Polk (Immortal Regiment) campaign is scheduled in dozens of cities throughout Russia and across the globe at the start of May to mark the 71th anniversary of what is known in the former Soviet Union as the Great Patriotic War. Campaign participants march with a portrait of a relative or an unknown veteran of the war through the central streets of their cities. This year more than 10 million participants are expected to take part in the event worldwide, according to the Immortal Regiment co-chairman Sergei Lapenkov.
