Hundreds of thousands of people gathered at Tahrir Square in Baghdad, Friday, to protest against alleged corruption in the Iraqi government.
The rally, led by popular Shia figure Muqtada al-Sadr, chanted the slogan "yes to reforms, no to corruption." Al-Sadr gave a speech, denouncing the government's alleged involvement in corruption while calling for institutional reforms.
Al-Sadr arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday to discuss with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi the formation of a new government that is "able to meet the needs of Iraqi people."
Baghdad was under heavy security presence, with road blocks in the city centre leading to Tahrir Square.
