Members of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) gathered outside their office in Charleston on Thursday to address the media regarding the shooting of Walter Scott. Dot Scott, President of the Charleston NAACP, reacted to the incident saying the "evidence at the scene does not support what the officer says." Scott also criticised the permissiveness of the system, saying it is "business as usual." She went on to demand a trial and "conviction" of 33-year-old white police officer Michael Slager, saying the murder proves there is a "culture" of racism and police brutality in the US. The killing of Walter Scott occurred on Saturday in North Charleston and gained national media attention after a video of the shooting went public on Tuesday.. The police officer named Michael Slager has been charged for murder.
